Cincinnati English Renaissance Music - Early music- Lute and early instruments.
Shakespeare often used scraps of popular songs in his plays as vehicles for jokes, emotions, or implied meanings. The songs he quoted were well-known at the time, but a modern audience misses the context that a full song can communicate. The Song and Soliloquy Program, presented by The Shakespeare Band, takes the audience on a journey with a selection of complete songs and original tunes referenced in Shakespearean plays. The set features voice and lute, instruments that were commonly employed in 16th- and 17th-century England. Between vocal selections, an actress recites soliloquies from Shakespeare's plays. This is an authentic, delightful doorway into the sounds and sentiments that were native to Shakespeare as he wrote his famous works. Great Idea for any Cincinnati early music performance or event!
